I’m fairly sure that we can all agree that Opening Day really marks the start of spring in Baltimore! That said, who wants to watch the bloom of orange from an office window? Instead, start off this year’s baseball season right by celebrating at one of these planned events:
Marriott Inner Harbor – Starting at 11 a.m. local brewer Heavy Seas will be having a tap takeover. Located very close to Oriole Park at Camden Yards, this is an ideal event to enjoy before heading to the game, or you can make this your destination point for enjoying both great local craft beer and the game on their televisions while taking in the spirit of the fans!
Stalking Horse Vodka Bar – For 30 dollars, enjoy unlimited Bud Light draft beer from 11 am – 2 pm at Stalking Horse along with a Baseball Themed Buffet from 12 pm – 1:30 pm as well as a Commemorative Opening Day Koozie. Stay and watch the game, or upgrade your package and include a ticket to the game! Find the details at: http://www.bmorearoundtown.com/events/view.php?event=MMS.
Cross Street Market – Given its proximity to the stadiums, Federal Hill is a prime spot to grab food or drinks before or after the game. Cheese Galore and More in the Cross Street Market shared that former Oriole Chris Hoiles will be broadcasting from right near their location within the market. Grab some food and drinks from one of the many vendors in the Market and enjoy a little time with some O’s greatness!
No Idea Tavern – Opening Day for A Cause – No Idea is donating a large portion of money made on Opening Day to support a close friend’s battle against colon cancer. Their Facebook page details the event but some highlights are all you can drink domestic drafts for $10 and $3 Old Granddad and Fireball Shots. If you prefer to just hit a local spot to enjoy your Bohs and O’s, there are plenty of places with food and drink specials to enjoy. Here’s a lineup of some of the top choices:
Rowhouse Grille – Starting at 11 a.m., $5 O’s Bombs, $3 Natty Boh and food specials. At 3 p.m., there will be two for 1 drink specials.
Kislings Tavern – $4 O’range Crushes (fresh squeezed orange, peach, grapefruit, creamsicle) and $5 O’range Bombs. $2 off all craft drafts and $1 off domestics from 3 – 7 pm and happy hour food from 3-5 pm featuring discounted wings, nachos, crab dip or a half pound of steamed shrimp.
Nacho Mama’s – $2 Natty Boh, $1 off other beers and margaritas from 4 – 7 pm.
Alewife – Open at 10 a.m., $5 pints of beer from local brewing company Full Tilt all day.
Mama’s On The Half Shell – $5 Orange Crushes
If the weather cooperates, you can also enjoy some outdoor time at Pickle’s Pub which offers an outdoor game day menu featuring pub food like nachos, sausages, and hot dogs.
Finally, if you have a ticket to the game, don’t forget to leave plenty of time to get to the stadium and enjoy all of the new concessions that have been added in the past several years. From bacon on a stick to Boog’s BBQ, there’s no doubt that Oriole Park at Camden Yards hits a homerun when it comes to food. If you’re looking for something brand new, check out the new sandwiches added to the menu at Dempsey’s Brew Pub and Restaurant. There’s even a crabby new take on the traditional lobster roll!
There’s no wrong or right way to celebrate Opening Day in Baltimore so on Monday just be sure to don your orange and enjoy the kickoff of one of our favorite seasons in Baltimore – baseball season!
