This local barbeque joint at 15 E. Centre Street is a welcome newcomer to the Mt. Vernon area. Despite its fairly recent opening, Midtown BBQ and Brew has already built a local following with their attentive service and lip-smacking savory barbeque.
Midtown offers a variety of tasty starters, soups, salads, and sandwiches, but the piece de resistance is, of course, their barbeque! Their tender, smoky chicken (thighs, breast, or ½ chicken), ribs, pulled pork or chicken, and housemade sausages are all touted as being free range, locally and sustainable farmed, and slow-smoked in-house.
All meats are served with a choice of the restaurant’s original housemade sauces ranging from a “Kansas City-style sweet tomato and molasses based” sauce (Red BBQ) to their hotter sauces: Nuclear, and Zombie Apocalypse. For the very daring, Midtown offers the Ghost’s Revenge, their spiciest sauce made from a reduction of ghost peppers. For lunch, served Monday through Saturday, a two course meal is a steal at $15.00. Original signature cocktails (such as the Prima Porta, a refreshing mix of Aperol, St. Germain and grapefruit) and cheese and meat choices are available as well.
